Orientation Day 2.5.11

Hello family and friends!

I have decided to create this blog to outline my journey through Culinary School. I know I am going to be a busy girl the next 9 months, which is how long this program is. I also know that since I will be so busy that I won't be able to see my friends and family as much as I'd like. So, with that in mind, this is also why I am creating this blog so that all my family and friends can see what I am up to in school and also so that I can have something to look back on when I am done with this journey. :)

I am going to try my hardest to update this blog as much as possible. I am aiming at updating AT LEAST once a week. Hopefully we will see something new on here every Saturday!

With that being said, here is my first posting!

This Saturday, February 5, 2011, I attended my Culinary School Orientation! I'm sure everyone who knows me, knows that I am doing the Baking and Patisserie (Pastry) program. This program is focused on doughs, candy, chocolate,  laminated doughs, cookies, biscuits, cakes, frostings, etc. Now that we are all on a mental sugar rush, lets look at some photos!

This is a photo of my school. That door on the left is the door I'll be entering 5 days a week for the next 9 months! This entire building is not my entire school. I believe on the second floor there is like a fashion design school. Anyways, here is a quick photo I snapped when we were leaving after the orientation.

Le Cordon Bleu

The orientation was fun. I applied for this school back in late May/early June. Since then, I have been filling out Financial Aid paperwork, loan paperwork, admission paperwork... you name it! So going to this orientation helped this whole experience feel real! My mom accompanied me to my orientation and she was also the proud mama taking lots of photos. :) Haha, it's ok though because if she didn't then I wouldn't have the following photos to share with you!

After a few important people spoke to us we were directed to go into specific kitchens according to our classes to pick up our first uniform. Here is a picture of me picking up my uniform. All our bags had our names on it :) Can you tell how excited I was! I was telling my mom, "why are you taking pictures?" Then I laughed when I saw another proud dad taking photos too! So that's what I am looking at.

Getting my uniform.

After we tried on our chef coats, we line up outside to take our photos. Although this is a hideous photo, it's a memory so here it is. Me waiting patiently/nervously in line to have my ID photo taken. I don't know what I am going to do with all my hair. I have the LARGEST hat on and it's still snug on my head. I emailed my rep to see what she said so I am waiting for her reply.

In line to take ID photo

It's official! I look so shy in my photos. Too many emotions that day. Nervous, unsure, excited, SCURRED! Haha. But I am so excited to start. I was told that there is a wait list for the Baking and Patisserie program so I am so thankful that I got in on time.

But that was my orientation day. It was a good day and I was very happy that my mom came with me so she can see where her "baby girl", as she calls me, will be every day.

Here is a close up of the emblem I will be proudly representing. It's a close up of the one stitched on my chef coat.

Well, I would like to extend a heart felt thank you to all my friends and family who are so supportive of my decision to attend Culinary School. When looking at colleges in high school, I actually looked at Le Cordon Bleu in San Francisco but I chickened out because I didn't think I "had what it takes". Well, I had somewhat of an "awakening" early last year that made me finally go with the dream I have had to bake as my career.

Everyone please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that my commute will be safe and I will make it to school and home everyday, safely.

I start school on February 14! I hope to have lots of fun updates coming soon!

With Love,
Adriana
